Cool Design Focus January 9th, 2009Red dot award: design concept 2008: No More Falling Into Manholes.
Designer: Kim Pil Gon Seo ll Kyung Ha Nam Mi
Nowadays more and more accidents happened due to the uncovered manhole, people fall into easily especially for the olds and kids when they are walking in the nighttime darkness. This manhole cover has been designed for safety which can avoid unnecessary falls and potential injury. By using the rigs of light for people’s attention is the main concept of this illuminated manhole cover system. The lid has a luminous ring around its outer edge as well as the interior circumference frame. Thus, when the lid is removed, the hole area will be highlighted. But when the lid is in place, the lights are covered insided and it’s turned to be a normal manhole as usual surface. No light and you will find nothing special. Very thoughtful idea.
